Arch Rock Mackinac Island, Michigan
My recent trip to Michigan included a couple days on the beautiful and historic Mackinac Island. Soon after we landed at the island via ferry, we rented some bicycles and pedaled the road around the island.
One of the unmistakable points of interest along the way is Arch Rock.

From the road it’s a lot of steps through the forest to the top of the rock and the scenic lookout. Once there it’s an incredible sight, as you see above. Check out Mackinac Island under the Scenery Ideas section for a better look.
So I decided to make my version of Arch Rock as a tribute to that Michigan trip. Above you see the foam insulation start of the scene. A few days later it looked like this.
Check out the entire Michigan trip in the Scenery Ideas section. And check out how I made Arch Rock below. By the way, there’s a road at the bottom of the actual rock. Since there are no motorized vehicles on Mackinac Island it’s good for mostly bicycling, walking and running. So if you put this scene on a layout you could place a road there, or how about a railroad line? That would be an unthinkable possibility on Mackinac Island but Arch Rock would look great on a model railroad layout.
