More cars, more golf, and snow! Snow is a great effect on a landscape as you can see in some of these scenes. Skiers – downhill and cross country – and ice skaters.

These scenes remind me of Stowe, Vermont. What a beautiful town in a beautiful state. Stowe lies in a valley between Mt. Mansfield and other peaks of the Green Mountains to the west, and the Worcester Range or “Hogback” Mountains to the east. The Waterbury River (or Little River as it is presently known) with its various tributaries empties into a large reservoir created by a flood control dam.

At 4,393 feet Mount Mansfield is Vermont’s highest mountain and is a ski area with terrain suitable for intermediate to expert skiers. Stowe has been known as “the ski capital of the East.”

Plus, the von Trapp family of Sound of Music fame moved from their native Austria to live in Stowe. During the winter of 1968-69, Johannes von Trapp came up with an idea to start cross-country skiing trails at the Trapp Family Lodge – Trapp, not von Trapp Family Lodge. Today, there are 28 miles of groomed trails and another 62 miles of ungroomed trails throughout the Trapp Family Lodge property.

Little wonder these snow scenes remind me of Stowe. Great spot.
