The Lake
Lakes look great on layouts if they’re made right. A plain round lake is unrealistic. Real lakes have irregular shorelines.
Many people also paint the entire lake bottom flat black. But lakes have different depths. The deeper parts should be darker. The shallower areas should be lighter.
TIPS:
Make the shoreline as rugged as possible for dramatic effect.
Make the bottom of the mountain lake a bit of a mess. Darker (flat black) areas where it’s deeper, lighter paint where it’s shallower – and maybe even exposed rocks in the shallower areas. Mix it up, mess it up. The outdoors is a messy place, remember?
