Georgia
The northern part of the US state of Georgia is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the vast Appalachian Mountains.

In Atlanta, Union Station (below) was the smaller of two principal train stations in the downtown area, Terminal Station being the other. Opening in 1930, Union Station was razed in 1972. Terminal Station opened in 1905.

After Amtrak was created in 1971, Terminal Station (below) closed and remaining passenger train service in Atlanta shifted to the much smaller Peachtree Station, commonly known as Brookwood Station.

The photos below show a beautiful Norfolk Southern train in the Georgia countryside. With headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, NS operates 21,500 route miles in 22 eastern states, the District of Columbia and Ontario, Canada. The trains mostly haul coal from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
